NBC News reported that Secretary Tillerson called Trump a Moron, or a f’ing Moron, in a fit of pique. One of the funniest press conferences I’ve ever seen was when Tillerson was faced with the direct question: Did you call the President a Moron?
You may remember the story about Lyndon Johnson. This is how Hunter S. Thompson recounted the story, from www.independent.co.uk/...
“The race was close and Johnson was getting worried. Finally he told his campaign manager to start a massive rumour campaign about his opponent’s life-long habit of enjoying carnal knowledge of his barnyard sows.
“Christ, we can’t get away with calling him a pig-f****r,” the campaign manager protested. “Nobody’s going to believe a thing like that.”
“I know,” Johnson replied. “But let’s make the sonofab****h deny it.”
Have you ever, in the annals of American history, seen such an event? The Secretary of State is a lofty position, charged with directing America’s foreign policy. I’m sure former Secretaries of State thought their President was a Moron, but to have it come out like this? Sheesh.
There are some key take-aways from this momentous event:
1. The President is a Moron.
2. Tillerson is a dead man walking. While I’m not sad about that, it does have significant effect on our place in the world. I know Tillerson doesn’t have the President’s support — we knew that with Trump’s tweet telling Tillerson that negotiating with Kim Jung Un was a waste of time. Now the world knows Tillerson is a limp dishrag. That can’t help us in foreign policy.
3. There is a thing called karma. Tillerson was known as a take-no-prisoners CEO. He ruled with an iron fist, and expected total subservience from his employees at Exxon, according to some reports. He was a absolute ruler. Now, though, he has found himself in the position of having to grovel for his job. He had to throw self-respect out the window and kiss the ring (or some body part) of his boss, just to keep his job.
4. It’s going to get worse for Tillerson. Remember this?
Remember how Trump made Romney beg for the very job that Tillerson got? Trump knew he was not going to give Romney the job, but he had to have the satisfaction of making Romney prostate himself before Trump. There will be public humiliation of Tillerson. I suspect that more than a few employees at Exxon are high-fiving, seeing Tillerson get his comeuppance.
5. There will be more. Trump, according to various reports, likes to run roughshod over his people and the more highly-regarded they are, the more Trump belittles them. I’m sure Tillerson is not the only senior staffer who thinks Trump is a moron. I’m just as sure that there will be further reporting of grumbling in the ranks.
6. The crumbling of the facade of “Trump Almighty” will cause his Trumpness to draw within the bulwarks. The only ones he can really continue to control are the kids and his current wife. He holds the power of the inheritance over them — they have to support him. They are, to a person, flawed and, apparently, legally vulnerable — every one of them. With the first indictment of a Trumpling will come a temper tirade the likes of which we have not seen. Popcorn time, indeed — I just hope he doesn’t start a war to divert public and media attention.
7. And the final point? It’s worth saying again. The President is a Moron.
