It's been snowing here in Chicago since about 11 PM. last night, and weather.com seems to imply the snow will taper off by 11 PM. tonight, possibly ending by 1 or 2 AM. A couple of hours ago Calamity Jean decided to tackle shovelling off the front stoop, the steps, the gangway walk, and the sidewalk across our frontage. I was detailed to do the dishes. We both went about our chores.
Oh, those enterpreneurial kids? No sign of them or their shovels.
It is still snowing. The City has plowed the adjacent north-south street, primarily because there is a school there, but the east-west street we live on is untouched, mostly, although a neighbor across the street was digging out his car to go somewhere.
Calamity Jean managed to get a narrow path on the sidewalk done, and while 3-8 inches had been predicted, we have more like 12 inches. After getting this far, she had to work her way back, because snow had accumulated on the steps and gangway walk, to the depth of about 1 or so inches. The neighbors on either side have not done any shoveling, yet, being tied up in the Super Bowl, perhaps?
Then came a short discussion on dinner: tonight was planned this past week as a meal at home, and tomorrow we were going to go out tomorrow, with grocery shopping on Tuesday. I suggested we make ourselves each a sandwich, and save the fixings for tonight's dinner for tomorrow. She agreed, then went to empty the compost catcher before doing anything else.
Well, it wasn't quite as bad as 2011, but we had 12-14 inches in the backyard, and my wife pulled her shoveling shoes back on and proceeded to dig out a short, but clear, path to the compost bin closest to the back door. With some grumbling and cussing, I might add. I had finished the dishes just before she came in from working out front. I made myself a sandwich, and Calamity Jean sat down to warm up.
Tomorrow, more shoveling. And when we go grocery shopping, be it Tuesday, or maybe Wednesday, I'm going to make sure we get an extra package of onion bagels and sliced cheddar.
How's the weather near you?
Mon Feb 02, 2015 at 4:48 PM PT: Well, about 5:40 PM. the plow finally came down our street. Calamity Jean and I spent a couple of hours digging out her car so we could go grocery shopping tomorrow. FWIW, the snow was about 12" deep, but there are drifts, and it wasn't as bad as 2011.
Stay warm and safe, everyone!
