"Progressive Politics:Tennessee Style" (PPTS) has been looking, for some time now, at "The War on the Poor!". I have determined eight "battlefields" upon which a majority of this war, from my perspective, is being waged.
On our previous show, I outlined the overview of the fifth battlefield: "The War For Reason!" As most Kossacks might readily approve, this battlefield seems to stay very, very busy. In fact, it is this battlefield that propelled me to introduce a new blog of my very own, so that I could safely state my own opinions about those things we discuss on the show. I wanted a forum that was not tied to, or limited by either my writing here, or my political activities.
For instance, my blog introduces the concept of rhetorical argument, with the average citizen in mind. Follow me just below the sguiggledoodlethingey fold, for just a bit of explanation.
In what I consider to be the continuing demolition (self immolation?) of both the Republican Party, and the Tea Party (who many would make their replacement in the American political landscape), we of the Democratic and Progressive side of the aisle are being inundated with questionable reasoning. From the Court House to the White House, the need for reasoned argument and civil discourse has never been greater.
We further naturally presume that:
The average citizen has no interest in the civil discourse which:
is going to be necessary if we are to have a survivable democracy following the 2014 elections.
We need these citizens to be fully engaged. (We, as in a democracy, that is.)
First, every one who is a citizen of this nation MUST make absolutely certain that they are both registered, and qualified to vote. Failing that, nothing else will really matter.
But, we also need more than that. We as a nation need desperately for our citizens to become actively engaged--right now. As a nation, as a party, we have multitudes of deranged topical deception and deceptive argument being generated as quickly as the unlimited dollars can be spent.
How is an average-information voter supposed to know what to believe? Instinct is just not enough today. And the War For Reason is unfolding before us in degrees never before encountered.
I hope to change that a little bit. I want you to help me change that. On this Sunday's show, we'll hopefully engage in some civil discourse designed to change that. Using examples of the arguments torn from the latest updates, I want to look at how we can see truth, and deception in our political landscape.
I really hope you will join us in this continuing conversation. I believe it really matters, and I believe you agree. Call us, or join our always lively chat.
We're on the air!
I'll see YOU there.
