Here I sit with my 16 year old son. We’re doing algebra homework. He’s way behind due to all of the upheaval of late. He’s a bright young man. He’s figuring out that algebra is his dad’s thing. It’s really fun watching his mind wrap around these concepts. He’s a sponge. It just soaks right up into that super elastic mind.
I am so grateful to be able to sit here in an air conditioned RV with a table and a light suitable for teaching him. For him, it’s subject matter that will help him throughout his life as he draws on his understanding of algebra in the future. (Yes, we all do use algebra in our day to day life.). For me, it’s bonding with my boy. For both of us it is a memory that will last.
It would not be possible for either of us were it not for the contributions that were made here by the fantastic people in our DKos community. Those of you who contributed are doing a thing that impacts his whole future. It’s not just me having simple gratitude for the help. It’s my children’s whole future being impacted in a very positive way. I am generally pretty adept at saying what is on my mind. I can’t come up with the string of words to adequately convey how thankful I am.
It’s going to take time, self-discipline, a productive attitude, money, good decision making, team work, and love to get there, but we are getting there. Every day, we’re making progress. We have a plan. I have discussed it with them. They see things falling into place. That’s because they are.
Thank you! I love you all.
Update: My youngest and I are off to take them to school. They pointed out to me that today marks 1 week of nights left sleeping in the RV until we’re in the new place! Also, today is my 1st day off without pressing needs to spend the entire day on in more than a month! What will I do with myself?
