This shouldn’t have to be said, and I will probably regret doing so. But …
GEORGE FLOYD DID NOT DIE FOR OUR SINS.
What the hell are these politicians thinking? HELLO. IS ANYONE HOME?
EDIT:
When I originally posted this story, I neglected to embed the below Tweet by Mayor Jacob Frey. This was a careless error on my part and probably the reason some people think I posted this to take shots at Pelosi, which was not my intent, but obviously my fault. For that I apologize. Considering the following Tweet, the comments I made below regarding the “betterment of Minneapolis” (now bolded) make sense. My bad.
George Floyd was strangled to death by a cop. He did not willingly give his life for the betterment of Minneapolis or so he could become a martyr for justice so politicians could use the conviction of his murderer as an occasion to showboat some imaginary victory they or we did not win.
Floyd lived a life full of struggle in a social and economic environment defined by systematic, structural racism, and his tragic end is a personal tragedy for his family, friends and our society. As are all such deaths.
That justice was done at the trial of his murderer is a good thing and a moment to be celebrated on its own merit, but it is one outlier data point floating on a sea of injustice, and seeing it as otherwise is to miss the reality of the situation.
Repeat: George Floyd did not die for our sins, he died BECAUSE OF THEM.
FFS, is that so difficult to grasp?
Just for the record, this is how it is done:
