Republicans...or,more accurately, Republican’ts (since they’ve proven they are simply incapable of doing anything about America’s problems...except to complain) have dug themselves into a ditch. It’s a ditch that they not only dug for themselves, but for which they hired and used giant earth-moving equipment to create. And now that they are stuck in the biggest political rut a political party has ever found itself in, their primary source of power...wealthy corporations...are beginning to try to yell and scream at them that they are not only in a ditch, but living in denial about that ditch.
I’m not referringto the recent kerfuffle Republican’ts created with big business when Republican’ts in Georgia decided to reinstitute a new Jim Crow era in that state with shamelessly blatant voter repression efforts (yes...these are not just...voter “suppression” efforts, but out-and-out voter repression efforts deliberately designed to disenfranchise African-American and other minorities).
But those voter repression efforts aren’t even the only egregious thing Republican’ts have done to piss off their historically most powerful source of power...large, wealthy corporations, for whom Republican’ts have served as willing tools since the party’s inception.
Apparently, the heads of many of this country’s largest and wealthiest corporation have simply had enough of the shameless climate change denial and delusion that Republican’ts have chosen to subscribe to.
In an unprecedented move, heads of 300 of this country’s largest corporations have sent a letter urging action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in response to climate change. Not only is this unprecedented in that these large corporations are going against the one major political party that has done their bidding in the past, but these corporations, many of which have been known to support the Republican Party in recent years, are overtly stating that the Republican Party’s policy position that climate change doesn’t really exist ...is pure hogwash.
Republican elected officials continue to not only deny climate change, but even mock those who accept it as a fact, including 99 percent of all scientists.
And now, corporations that have been the bread-and-butter of Republicans’ power base are stating outright that Republicans are out to lunch on the matter of climate change.
This is huge, people.
Three-hundred of this country’s...no...of the world’s...largest corporations are urging action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent from 2005 levels.
Meanwhile, Republican’ts, with their fingers stuck permanently in their ears while whistling and singing as loud as they can...la...la...la...la...la...la...we can’t hear you….continue to stick with their ludicrous position that neither greenhouse gas emissions...nor climate change...are anything to be concerned with whatsoever.
The leaders of some of the most Republican companies, such as General Electric and Coca-Cola, for instance, have signed onto the letter acknowledging the problem of climate change and are urging action.
As a former vice president of the United States once said...the fact that corporate America is now not only acknowledging the existence of climate change, but pressing for urgent action, despite Republican’ts’ denial, ”is a big f#@#&@g deal.”
