So it’s been like a month since we went out to the new house, what with Governor Pritzker’s XO to hunker down. Calamity Jean wanted to check on Mr. Pine (the Norfolk Island Pine she inherited from her mother) and generally check things out.
We got a late start, but made good time (no traffic), getting to Cub Foods in Freeport just 15 minutes to closing (they changed their hours to allow store staff to stock the shelves unencumbered by shoppers intercepting TP and other items of great interest before they hit the shelves). The real surprise was the Belvidere Oasis, where all the tables and chairs had been removed; food was available, but you had to take it out of the pavilion, and not eat inside. It was almost like a ghost town. We got a simple dinner, ate in the car, and then headed for Cub, getting some microwave meals for tonight and some items for breakfast today and tomorrow. We head back to Chicago tomorrow morning.
