Things happen, life goes on. I’ve made a habit over the years of counting my blessings for what could have happened but didn’t.
Monday evening I was driving to Eugene, Oregon to visit a writer friend of mine that I hadn’t seen in ages, (she lives in Texas, but flies all over doing writing workshops, she usually hits Oregon once or twice a year). As I pulled out from the light at W 7th & High street the driver’s side ball joint of the truck failed and dropped the front end of the truck on the pavement. The remaining pin skidded, dragging the wheel along til I got over to the bike lane & got stopped, 30 feet or so. How many blessings can I count right there? 1) I was already within a block of where we were supposed to meet. 2) It was almost 7PM and there was minimal traffic. 3) There was a huge, almost empty parking lot right there on the corner, so after I got out & looked, I grabbed reverse & dragged the wheel back into the parking lot, leaving room & a good angle for the wrecker. 4) My AAA is paid up. 5) It didn’t happen 30 minutes earlier when I was cruising at 70+ down the back roads because I was running a bit late. 6) Our AAA is the RV package which includes free towing within 100 miles, my mechanic’s shop was 95 miles away, according to their GPS.
The downside is that my sturdy little Toyota is in the shop, :-( . They’ve finally found that parts, but still waiting for delivery, so I’m stranded til at least Monday. Oh, and I blew a ligament in my foot getting into the wrecker, so I’m also on crutches for at least a couple of weeks, (it’s improving faster than I expected, I originally thought it would need surgery, but it’s markedly better for having been up in the air and rested since Tuesday, so hopefully not).
More blessings? The original estimate was close to $600, but they found some used parts through a junk yard, so it's going to be $465.
I’ve borrowed a car today, but no clue when I’m going to be able to get out & online again, and there's no c3ll signal at the shop, so I'm stranded and muzzled, dammit. Good for the foot, tho. Posing this from my phone 'cause th library computer just shut off for closing
Sorry to hit n run. Hope you folks are having more comfortable blessings I’m probably not going to be able to follow up over the weekend.
My PayPal is ping-pita-5765@opayq.com, I need $465 to ransom the truck.
