That’s not the point of teaching my children about “Stranger Danger” any more than waking up deplorables and the schmucks that they support in the legislature is the point of the hearings.
Half of the country didn’t vote in 2016 and, of the half that did, 3 million more voted for Clinton. That means people who voted for that scumbag are less than a quarter of eligible voters. This massive news coverage event that exposes an airtight case against Trump is about greasing the skids for GOTV among the ginormous pool of people who didn’t vote or who voted 3rd party (<— same thing) in 2016.
I predict that pollsters will severely underestimate the “Likely Voter” metric having completely misunderstood what this impeachment is accomplishing just like the doom and gloomers are missing the point now. As long as we don’t create a giant, stupid circular firing squad with our primaries like we did last time, GOTV after 4 years of embarrassing scumbaggery and buffoonery by Trump and obvious criminal and treasonous behavior exposed by the hearings should be like trying to convince my kids to skip their chores to eat candy. Have a look at midterm turn out on our side and last week’s odd year election results.
We definitely need to do GOTV work like the future of democracy is in imminent danger, because it is. Still, it should be a significantly easier task than GOTV after a suicidally contentious primary resulting in a candidate that republicans had already been successfully lying and campaigning against for 30 years giving them one hell of a head start before the Russians even got involved.
