So there was some fun to be had in Fort Worth this past weekend. I’m falling down on the job when comes to getting stuff out here from Texas and Houston, but I was a delegate to the convention. So the state convention was held and the speakers highlighted the asylum travesty happening on the border.
Friday afternoon was when the major speeches took place. The statewide slate took the stage and were motivated an already energized crowd. Roman McAllen, candidate for Railroad Commissioner, Kim Olson, candidate for Agriculture Commissioner, Miguel Sauzo, candidate for General Land Office Commissioner, Joi Chevalier, candidate for State Comptroller, and Justin Nelson, candidate for Attorney General all had moments to fire up the crowd. Suazo called out George P. Bush for being as effective as a George Bush could in a natural disaster. Kim Olson has to be seen to really understand how powerful she is. And Justin Nelson pretty much spelled out his race as Integrity versus Indictment. (Ken Paxton, the current Attorney General, is under indictment for committing fraud.)
But the big three really went at it. Mike Collier, candidate for Lt Governor, took the proverbial baseball bat to Dan Patrick. “He’s got fake hair, a fake name, and a fake truck, that’s Dan Patrick.” Collier's ad was the best shown.
Lupe Valdez, candidate for governor, came up and has the story that so many American’s have; born into a migrant family, she worked here way through college and graduate school, served in the military, and was ultimately elected to be Sheriff of Dallas County, despite all the opposition from the ‘good ol’ boy’ network. She highlighted that every battle she’s fought has been an uphill battle. That’s all she knows!
Finally came Rep Beto O’Rourke, taking on Ted Cruz for the US Senate. He was dynamic after having to travel to Fort Worth from Washington because of a House vote. He’s been to all 254 counties in the state and implored Democrats to ‘Show Up’ everywhere to let everyday Texans know that we are fighting for them.
There are many plans in place for GOTV. There are thousands of people motivated to do the work. The time for Texas to stand against this corrupt Administration is now. Beto and Lupe are at the top of the ticket. Texas, it is time to turn out and vote!
