Our people, all people, all animals, our ecosystems-- should be our highest priority. The economy plays a role in this, but far from an exclusive one.
So JOBS is an important value, but not the only one, and not at the cost of people's health and the health of our environment.
Tomorrow voters will make a decision-- in large part an opinion on how well Trump and Republicans have managed incredibly valuable resources and what people value.
As I see it, Trump and Republicans have massively inflated the debt to throw a party for Republican donors and the wealthiest Americans. Though most of us got some share, a few thousand here and there-- but at what cost to our futures and the stability of our economy?
Democrats and Republicans ballooned the deficit in previous years mostly to rev the economy following the 2008 financial collapse. In retrospect, this could have been unwise because it bailed out the wealthiest people for making risky decisions, rewarding them for poor decisions.
Every US person has about $75,000 in sovereign debt-- every man, woman, and child.
And it's dramatically increasing every day, with no end in sight.
McConnell has already called for cuts to variety of public services, which basically has to happen at this point. Our current health-care model is unsustainable and has little to nothing to do with Obamacare-- it's a function of a for-profit medical system taking care of the SICKEST and unhealthiest people in the developed world, a system of perverse incentives in a system that is fundamentally NOT free market and can't fully be free market for all kinds of reasons.
Republican attitudes towards education, technology, marijuana and other psychedelics, mental health, the environment, and energy are so luddite, so religious, and so backward, that I can't even morally countenance this party.
I'm voting straight Democratic tomorrow-- and will likely do so for the rest of my life.
Because I see the Republican Party as the greatest threat to our survival and well-being on this planet. Prioritizing the wealth of the country's wealthiest citizens over all other priorities-- while feeding the people a lying load of shit and propaganda every day-- is a recipe for disaster.
I'm glad Trump defeated the rest of the weak and incompetent field of Republicans. In some important respects I'm glad he defeated Hillary Clinton.
But enough is enough of this anti-science, anti-rationalism, magical thinking of the Republican Party that places tax cuts for the rich as the morally highest priority.
