The New York Times is reporting that Kavanaugh has hired four female law clerks, the most female clerks any SCOTUS has ever hired for a session. Kavanaugh goes on to say in the piece that he had a good track record of getting his female clerks from the Appeals Court on to the Supreme Court. The NYTimes article did not discuss past controversies that were related to his law clerk hiring style: Yale law students have told reporters that Tiger Mom, Amy Chua, and her husband, both law school professors at Yale, suggested Kavanuagh likes a certain look and Chua would offer advice in achieving that look. It was also said that these clerks then had a good chance on advancing to clerk for John Roberts.
The NYTimes:
“Justice Kavanaugh said in his testimony last month that he had started to take action to address the underrepresentation of women among law clerks after reading a 2006 articlein The New York Times noting that only seven of 37 Supreme Court clerks were women.
“A majority of my 48 law clerks over the last 12 years have been women,” he told the Senate Judiciary Committee. “In my time on the bench, no federal judge — not a single one in the country — has sent more women law clerks to clerk on the Supreme Court than I have.””
