Sometimes I need a dose of good music to get me out of a funk. The late great Stevie Ray Vaughan (RIP) wrote and performed two great songs about the weather here in Texas. Given everything we have had to put up with weather-wise this past week here in Houston and all over southern and southeastern Texas, I thought the two videos below of SRV performing these Texas weather songs would be inspirational and diverting enough for anyone who is just about totally fed up with our suck-ass Texas weather and who needs some of the wonderful singing and amazing guitar playing of Stevie Ray Vaughan.
To start off, of course, is the incredible and spot on “Texas Flood” (from “Live at the El Mocambo”). “Yeah flood water keep a rollin’….man it’s about to drive poor me insane.”
And lastly, of course, is “Couldn’t Stand The Weather”. I’m sure many of us in Texas are feeling that sentiment viscerally about now. “Understand, it’s time to get ready for the storm.”
Well I hope this short diary helps some of us take our minds however briefly off of our troubles and allows us to enjoy some of SRV’s wonderful music and incredible performances. That’s what the blues, in this case SRV’s electric Texas blues, can do for you. Needless to say Stevie Ray Vaughan is one of my favorites—too bad he had to leave us far too soon.
