Families with children were out in force today at the Oakland, California edition of the Women’s March.
The huge crowd, estimated to be in excess of 70,000 100,000 people, was so large that its length far exceeded the 2 ½ mile course of the march itself. The throng completely overflowed the plaza and surrounding streets near the starting point at Laney College. Those at the back had not begun to move by the time those at the front arrived at Frank Ogawa Plaza in Oakland City Center.
I took hundreds of crowd shots. It is difficult to find one without at least one child in the frame. The march was a Teachable Moment for many parents. May the children who attended always remember why they came.
As for the rest of us: may we remember that today was only Day 1 of the Resistance.
