We have all heard of the moronic and misogynistic argument against the new Ghostbusters movie (which I’ve seen and think is terrific) but few have heard of the true controversy that is brewing over the theme song (beyond the old fact that Ray Parker Jr. had to settle out of court on a lawsuit from Huey Lewis over plagiary — there’s that word again!) The cover of the theme song used during the movie sucks, in my humble opinion. I don’t dislike Fallout Boy specifically just this lamely tepid effort on display here.
But for those lucky moviegoers that stayed through to the end of the movie credits you were rewarded with another version of the the iconic theme song — a take-no-prisoners rocker from the Los Angeles based band No Small Children.
For those not as fortunate as I to hear it in this setting the band has just released a video of the song with clips from a recent live taping and clips from the movie provided to them by Sony.
Now, I know, after seeing and hearing this amazing version you ask, what possible controversy could there be? This is hands down the finest interpretation possible! And you know what? The director of Ghostbusters would absolutely agree with you as he stated:
“These awesome musicians completely sum up the spirit of our movie — smart, talented, subversive women kicking ass and taking names.”
But alas, the song was brought to the movie’s music director only after all of the music had been selected and therefore it isn’t included on the soundtrack from the movie. You can still get your very own copy for only a buck though as the band has released it themselves.
Controversy solved.
