Anita Alvarez, the Chicago prosecutor who hid information about the murder in the Laquan McDonald case, and Tim McGinty, the prosecutor who couldn’t/wouldn’t get the grand jury to indict police officers in the murder of Tamir Rice, were both voted out of office by the voters in Chicago and Cleveland.
Their losses are a victory for Black Lives Matter, a movement whose cultural reach will continue to be tested—and hopefully proven—at the polls.
This is a great start. As much as we want better laws it might also help electing better politicians to tackle these issues. Alvarez and McGinty were shameful and far too powerful. Hopefully, their replacements can try and curb police abuses.
