In late July of this year, the 14th Dalai Lama, HH Tenzin Gyatso, was honored by the Parrisenne Maire, Anne Hidalgo, as an Honorary Citizen of the City of Paris.
In an interview conducted in India earlier this week, the Dalai Lama had the following comments with regards to the recent attacks in the City of Light:
We cannot solve this problem only through prayers. I am a Buddhist and I believe in praying. But humans have created this problem, and now we are asking God to solve it. It is illogical. God would say, solve it yourself because you created it in the first place.
...
We need a systematic approach to foster humanistic values, of oneness and harmony. If we start doing it now, there is hope that this century will be different from the previous one. It is in everybody's interest. So let us work for peace within our families and society, and not expect help from God, Buddha or the governments.
Tenzin Gyatso, who turned 80 this year, has no planned successor to the position of Dalai Lama at this time:
I am not concerned about it. In 2011, I officially announced that it was up to the Tibetans if they wanted to keep the institution of the Dalai Lama. If the people think that this institution is no longer relevant, it should be abolished.
