She grabbed my hand as the Doctor finished a legal abortion. No one was to know what had
just happened. After the procedure was over, we sat in the parking lot. She was sobbing, and all I could do was hold her. She was an escort, she like most escorts needed the money.
She had to support her family that included her parents. She came from another country that frowns on abortions. Her husband had died, and she was poor. How could she
become pregnant while not married? Her parents would ask, and she had no desire to answer.
In some states, nothing much has changed for poor women seeking an abortion. Too many children to support, no money to travel long distances to seek safe care. Republicans speak about the sanctity of life. They seem unaware of the number of abortions performed before Roe vs. Wade The Bad Old Days: Abortion in America Before Roe v. Wade http://www.huffingtonpost.com/... via @HuffPostWomen Thousands
of abortions have been given for years. The number of deaths from illegal abortions changes from which source is given. One death is too many.
In a perfect world, there may be fewer abortions. The decision to have one belongs to the woman. It's not uncommon to see women protesting against other women trying to get a legal abortion. No one is telling the women protesting to ever get an abortion. How dare men protest against a private medical decision of a stranger? Maybe men should protest men getting a vasectomy.
Republican's fight like hell against abortion, then do little to help poor women with money to help care for the child.
Progressive people should care about the poor. All people in this country should have a right to free complete health care, that includes abortions. I have
witnessed tears and pain from women after going through this. I hate seeing and feeling pain from others, you should as well.
-“In my world, you don’t get to call yourself “pro-life” and be against common-sense gun control — like banning public access to the kind of semiautomatic assault rifle, designed for warfare, that was used recently in a Colorado theater. You don’t get to call yourself “pro-life” and want to shut down the Environmental Protection Agency, which ensures clean air and clean water, prevents childhood asthma, preserves biodiversity and combats climate change that could disrupt every life on the planet. You don’t get to call yourself “pro-life” and oppose programs like Head Start that provide basic education, health and nutrition for the most disadvantaged children...The term “pro-life” should be a shorthand for respect for the sanctity of life. But I will not let that label apply to people for whom sanctity for life begins at conception and ends at birth. What about the rest of life? Respect for the sanctity of life, if you believe that it begins at conception, cannot end at birth.”
