So once more it's Friday! And this time I'm actually home to write a diary. I'm still a bit wheezy and coughing more than I like, but I AM a lot better than I was last week. If we'd get some good sunny dry days I think I would improve much faster, but it's been overcast and drizzly for the past week.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group gives Kossacks a safe place to check in, a daily diary where we can let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, earthquakes, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It also allows us to find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, earthquakes etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a Kosmail and ask to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
We do have a diary schedule. But, when you are ready to write that diary, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FloridaSNMOM is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.

I thought perhaps we could go over some Unique Holidays for this week, thanks to Holiday Insights.
16 Appreciate a Dragon Day- Since my son has been in love with dragons since his birth, and he was named after a Dragon Prince, I thought I'd include a project he and I did together titled "Who's Gold" I wrote the poem and he illustrated it.
16 National Nothing Day - Have to watch out for the Nothing, make sure you bring your Luck Dragon! Maybe there's a reason they have these two listed on the same day, makes sense per "The Never Ending Story" by Michael Ende.
17 Ditch New Years Resolutions Day - Well that lasted just over two weeks anyway.
18 Thesaurus Day - An exceptional day to maximize ones phraseology by schooling oneself in unfamiliar jargon.
18 Winnie the Pooh Day -The Birthday of Winnie's author A.A. Milne
19 Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday, celebrated on the third Monday
19 National Popcorn Day- Just don't make it like the Swedish Chef.
20 National Buttercrunch Day
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup margarine
1 cup white sugar
3 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
1/2 cup toasted and chopped almonds
3/4 cup milk chocolate chips
1/2 cup toasted and chopped almonds
DIRECTIONS:
1. Butter a baking sheet, and set aside.
2. Melt margarine in 2 quart saucepan. Add sugar, and stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Stir in water and the corn syrup. Cook over medium heat, stirring often, to 270 degrees F (132 degrees C).
3. Remove from heat, and quickly stir in coarse nuts. Spread on to prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle chocolate over hot candy; when it begins to melt, spread evenly over the top. Top with nuts. Refrigerate until firm. Break into small pieces to serve.
20 Penguin Awareness Day
21 National Hugging Day - they even have a facebook page!
21 Squirrel Appreciation Day - For many it's a day of twitchy noses and acorns; but for some it's the day of Foamy.
22 National Blonde Brownie Day - I've always much preferred my brownies to be.. chocolate.
