It's a busy Sunday. My allergies are flaring up like crazy, the birds are wandering around causing trouble, and I have a lot of errands to do.
First, to the library, to drop off a few books. After that, it's time to go pick up the husband's diabetes prescription at the pharmacy.
This is the first time since we got insurance through the ACA that we've done a prescription pickup, so it occurs to me to offer up our insurance card when we finally make it through the long, slow-moving line to the pharmacy counter.
And the husband and I wait a few minutes as the pharmacy employee calls up our plan and does other stuff on the computer, then comes back with our card and finishes ringing up our medicine.
And I see on the receipt that we owe $0.
I can't believe it.
The husband even asks, "So how much do we owe you for this today?"
"Oh, nothing," the pharmacy employee says. "You are fully covered."
Fully. Covered.
Now, the medicine wasn't that expensive last time, but just think about it.
Fully. Covered.
Getting the medicine we need to take care of ourselves and keep my husband in blooming health ... with no further payment. Just by having insurance.
My husband and I have a lot of issues with the Democratic Party and the President in other areas, but all I can say today is this: Thank you, President Obama, and everyone who voted for you. Because of you, my husband can get the care he needs, and we get to keep a little more of our money.
Thank goodness for the Affordable Care Act. Obama cares.
Fully covered.
