Sorry for the late update, I was out most of the afternoon. Apparently the glass wasn't shot out, but rather police say that it shattered on its own due to the heat and humidity. Huh.
Thanks to Bill W in the comments for the rest of the story from Fox 10 TV here in Mobile.
A bullet shattered the window of the Democratic HQ on Government Street in downtown Mobile. The people inside the building were phonebanking, and nobody was injured. Mobile PD didn't give the reporters any more information.
The story has no mention of suspects, let alone political motivation. It's easy to jump to that conclusion, though, seeing as Alabama (and particularly Southern Alabama) isn't the friendliest place to live if you're left of center. Hopefully it was just a freak thing and it wasn't really politically motivated.
Completely and totally not a diary, but one of our local news stations WKRG is reporting that shots were fired this afternoon outside the Democratic HQ here in Mobile, Alabama. I'll post more of the specifics once they report them. It could be coincidental, but knowing Mobile, you never know.
I'll update this as soon as more comes in.

Mobile County Democratic Party Chairman Responds to Shooting Incident
Mobile – Mobile County Democratic Party Chairman, Representative Napoleon Bracy, responded this afternoon to a shooting incident at approximately 11:45 AM at Mobile County Democratic Party Headquarters on Government Street. A bullet fired from Government street pierced the front windows of the Party office and caused damage but none of the volunteers or party officials present were injured. Police are currently investigating.
“I am definitely shaken and the volunteers who were here working on behalf of Democratic candidates are shaken,” said Chairman Bracy.
“Right now we don’t know the cause, but I will be heartbroken if we find out that this incident was politically motivated”, said Chairman Bracy. “Regardless of our political beliefs or which candidates we support, violence should never be an option in our politics. I hope that the police determine that this was a random act.”
The Mobile County Democratic Executive Committee is scheduled to meet tonight at 6:00 PM at the Headquarters. Chairman Bracy reiterated that the local Democrats would not be slowed down. “Our efforts to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in Mobile County will not be deterred. Our meeting tonight will go on tonight as scheduled.”
