The state of American politics today seems so fubar I can barely comprehend it. It makes so little sense i'm both intrigued by it and at the same time I find it almost depressing. How did we get here? And more importantly how do we get away from here?
Follow me below the fine orange filigree to see what I mean...
I am completely dumbfounded that such a poor candidate as Mitt Romney could have half (or more) of Americans believe he is the best choice for the next President. I am not even talking about his policies, i'm referring to his character, history and general persona.
It would like to believe that in the past anyone as weak and mealy mouthed as Romney would never have a snow balls chance in hell to be elected President of these United States (Maybe i'm just wrong about this, but I think in some ways Kerry's 'flip-flopping' meme dooming him supports this). Given how undefined his policies are the general population should simply turn away from him without more concrete statements about his intent to draw the electorate back to him.
How did we get to such a place where someone like Romney could have a shot at the presidency or if nothing else a good shot at winning the popular vote? Once we understand how we got here that might give us a chance to get away from here.
Which begs the question how do we fix our political system enough that such a unqualified candidate no longer has a chance?
Honestly, I am at a loss! I just can not see how we can fix our system!
And I find it down right depressing...
I know I will get generic answers like elect more and better Democrats, but that still doesn't answer the real question of how we fix our system to a point where someone like Romney isn't even considered a viable candidate in serious circles.
3:58 PM PT: So based on what I've read information seems to be the general consensus. Based on this would it not be a good idea for the progressives to focus a lot of energy on taking some control or at least forcing the media to be less biased and more probing of facts?
