So, I met this guy the other day. Probably in his late 50s. I needed the services of a small business and he is who I found online and went to see. The story after the jump:
I never mention this to people, and haven't even mentioned it here, but I am currently receiving some help from a charity. Not government run, but an outside charity. Don't ask me why, but I just mentioned it to him out of the blue.
He was immediately angry. "How do you qualify for that?!!" Apparently, the fact that I could afford his services made me suspect.
I told him it was vestiges from a previous life, and how fast things change, and that I now easily qualified.
He said how he could use something like that, but it was couched in resentment. I felt bad, even guilty, and wanted to tell my life story, but of course, I didn't say anything.
As it turns out, I had to go back to see him again the next day, and apparently he had been thinking about me and the help I was receiving.
He told me, without my bringing it up again of course, "Congratulations on..." And he said how lucky I was to be receiving help. He was very nice, and happy for me. I told him I didn't think I was lucky to get myself in the condition where I needed help.
He said there are a lot of us out there.
I can't stop thinking about him.
