The Morning Advocate, Baton Rouge's daily, reports today that the Louisiana Family Forum has its knickers in a twist over the fact that the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL) offers an LGBT studies minor.
Family Forum President Gene Mills claims that a public college shouldn't be offering such coursework, saying "It doesn’t reflect Louisiana values."
U.S. Rep. Jeff Landry, R-New Iberia also piled on, opining that the program is a waste of taxpayer money.
ULL President Joseph Savoie countered by saying that LGBT-related coursework is an accepted area of study.
“Rooted in sociology, studies of human subgroups help prepare students for careers, such as counselors, personnel directors, teachers, social workers, criminal justice professionals, health care providers, managers and those involved in pastoral care.”
Please call or email Dr. Savoie and encourage him keep the LGBT program. His contact info is:
