Why won't they be bipartisan, like us? Like President Obama?
You know who I mean.
I mean those cruel insensitive brutes on the other side of the aisle.
We have the best interests of the county at heart and they just want to WIN.
Do you see how wrong and...and...un-nuanced that is?
Any ham-handed buffoon can win. All you have to do is get the most votes.
It takes no talent or finesse to do that. If THAT's all you want out of life, it's easy. You go around picking up phones and talking to people and saying crude boorish things to them, such as "I hope you know who paid for your last campaign."
Of course there are those of us to whom winning is only a by-product--a by-product of being good and true and fair and open-minded and willing to hear the other side's views, and even to seriously consider the other side's views.
There are those of us who don't believe that just because you have a majority means you get to have your way.
There are those of us who enjoy the give and take of an honest debate.
And we are secure enough to go on being ourselves, even if the other side kicks us in the groin.
That just shows what brutes they are!
Go ahead, we say to them. Show America how insecure you really are. Show America how you fight dirty, show your weakness by shoving us down the steps and then not even visiting us in the hospital or sending us a card or even calling us.
Show America how we reach out to you from our hospital bed with trembling hand bearing the rose of bipartisanship, and you shove our bed out of the doorway and use it for a scooter and shove it down flights of steps and laugh that horrid insensitive laugh of yours.
America is not fooled.
You are only hurting yourself.
