I scheduled today off from work months ago, knowing that I'd need some time today. In our neighborhood, it's considered 'good manners' to pull our campaign signs on election night, or early the next morning. We were having too much fun last night, so this morning I was driving around town pulling Obama signs, along with Congressional, Judicial, State Senate and Assembly signs. We didn't win 'em all, but by golly we had GOOD CANDIDATES in every race. For us, this is progress!
One friend was just getting around to taking her OBAMA sign in, she said they left it out because they wanted to get their American flag flying first, before they took the Obama sign in. She said many of her friends were flying flags today, replacing the yard sign with a flag. What a wonderful idea!
Our house has never had a flag holder. We've never flown the flag, though we've had possession of many. We're a couple of old hippies, my husband was a Vietnam draftee, we've not had much in common with the flag-decal folks. We were also scout leaders, so we've had troop flags and den flags, and one big old flag that I bought to teach 8-year-olds how to fold the flag for ceremonies. But, until today, I never felt a need to fly the flag. Today is different. Today, it feels like we really did take our country back. My neighbors are probably glad that the lawn signs are gone. I hope they notice our new flag. I might just fly it until Inauguration Day.
