In today's
column, Howard Kurtz lambasts former Generals and high-ranking administration officials for not speaking out more publicly when they were on the inside.
Could not the same criticism be leveled at our favorite WaPo media critic?
More below the fold...
Howie Kurtz:
...The war has aroused a growing number of critics who have nothing to do with the MSM and can't by any stretch be called liberal.
When Republicans and former military men are ripping the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld handling of the war, I'd say that Houston, we have a problem.
My only question in these matters: What took them so long?
I'm not saying they're necessarily right. I am saying that I'm suspicious when people leave jobs where they can actually do something about a policy, and only then -- in articles, books and TV appearances, unburden themselves of the grave doubts they dared not voice when it mattered.
That's probably a little harsh, but so be it.
Absolutely right!
Would Howie softpedal the journalistic failings of his own newspaper, say...
...Bob "Flakman" Woodward (well, he is a personal friend)
...L'il Debbie Howell (we received tons of emails from furious leftists, three of them even with curse words(!), so this must be overblown!)
...Ben "Blair Bedford Forrest" Domenech (youthful plageristic indiscretions)
...or Fred "Will you leak on me?" Hiatt (this is a good thing! Nothing emphasizes the church-state separation more than the fact that Fred Hiatt does not even read the Post!)?
Of course not!
Howard would go after this insults to journalism with both barrels blazing! At least I assume he will....
One of these days....
Won't he???
