CNN reported that NY Senator
Chuck Schumer has agreed to
become head of the Democratic
Senatorial Campaign Committee.
The Dems reportedly gave him
a post on the Finance Committee
as a sweetener. hmmn. I thought
he was already on that committee,
see what I don't know. (also not sure
I know how to spell his name.)
Like his predecessor, NJ Sen. Corzine,
Schumer knows how to raise money
from Wall Street and the big New York
banks, insurance companies, and
other moneybags. We can use it in
2006.
Even better, in taking this job Schumer
passes up the temptation to run for
Governor.
We already have one greatly qualified
candidate, NY Attorney General
Eliot Spitzer, hungry to run. After chasing
insurance companies, mutual funds,
and other white collar criminals, he has
a sky-high approval rating.
A primary fight between these two good
guys would have been a terribly costly
bloodletting. Those funds and that energy
can now be used to defeat Republicans.
Schumer spent too much in his
re-election campaign. I got four (4)
pieces of mail, about four times
too much. He had no serious opponent.
He should have used more of that
money, like Obama, to help other
Democrats. I was mad at him for not
doing so. Now all is forgiven.
Sen. Schumer now sidesteps a
potential awkwardness with RINO
Mayor Mike Bloomberg. Schumer's
wife is the highly regarded and very
capable Transportation Commissioner
for the City of New york. The current
and now continuing arrangement
reflects well on all involved.
