While DT is proud to continue his family legacy, a of being a third generation draft dodger, womanizer, and criminal, Rep Ayanna Pressley honors her family as a third generation champion of the poor, marginalized, and oppressed.
From the Cincinnati Enquirer:
“Pressley was born in Cincinnati in 1974 – two months early as a tiny, 3pound baby – to Sandra and Martin Pressley, who were both born and raised here. She moved to Columbus when she was very young and then to Chicago when she was a toddler.
Ayanna’s mother, Sandra Pressley, was born in Cincinnati in 1948 and grew up in Evanston.
Sandra’s mother, Lillian Echols, was a nurse who was very active in her church and community, according to Ayanna.
“She was a huge influence in my life,” the congresswoman said.
Lillian had an influence on Sandra as well, who saw her mother’s work at Gaines United Methodist in Madisonville and began working there along with her.
Sandra, who died in 2011 due to complications from leukemia, went to Withrow High School. She played volleyball, ran track and danced ballet, according to her obituary in the Boston Globe. She also had a musical side, playing both the piano and clarinet. She joined the history club, pep team and Future Teachers of America.
Sandra, referred to as “Sandy” by Ayanna when speaking about the Violence Against Women Act in April, was an activist throughout Ohio and focused on social justice issues. She also was a member of Ohio’s chapter of Eastern Star, a national fraternal organization that focuses on a wide range of charity work.
“Her life’s work was the pursuit of justice,” Pressley said. “The fact that service was quite literally embedded into her DNA, it makes sense that once she delivered me into the world that I very quickly followed suit.”
Sandra held positions throughout her life including tenants’ rights organizer, social worker for senior citizens, recruitment manager for a patent law firm and in acquisitions and mergers for Time Warner.”
While DT’s tweets are torture to most of us, Ayanna did receive a tweet from city councilman, P.G. Sittenfeld that made her happy:
“We are proud of the fact that @AyannaPressley was born here in Cincinnati – which last I checked, Mr. President, is still located in the United States of America. The Cincinnati City Council will bring forward a Resolution condemning this racism & honoring Congresswoman Pressley,”
No doubt, our country would be better off with more citizens like Ayanna and her family and fewer like the Trumps.
