Joe Biden claimed he is the most progressive candidate “running,” before he corrected himself — not about claiming he was the most progressive, but about running. That announcement obviously is soon.
This tweet sums up just a few of Biden’s less than progressive votes and positions.
The Crime Bill in the early 90s that is the subject of The New Jim Crow book — that put so many in prison — Biden used to take credit for that. And, yes, he also spoke of super-predators, thereby demonizing people.
The Bankruptcy Bill that harmed so many — Biden fought for years to pass it to help Big Banks.
Back in 2007 and 2008, he was called the Senator from MBNA here.
Yes, he voted for NAFTA and supported TPP. The Media likes to say he can win Michigan and Wisconsin, states decimated by the unfair trade agreements, but a NAFTA vote won’t help him there.
And his treatment of Anita Hill was not progressive.
These are just a few policy disagreements that he has with many Democratic candidates this year.
And let’s look at now. Most Democratic candidates support Medicare for All. Biden does not.
Free college. No, says Biden.
Being Vice President to Barack Obama does not make him Barack Obama.
He will succeed or fail based on his own history and policy choices today.
And the “New Left” about which he speaks was in the 1960s. It’s a bit dated.
No, Joe, you are not the most progressive candidate running or about to run.
I can think of several candidates who are much more progressive. Not just one or two — several.
