A few years back, I wrote about a racial profiling case in rural Minnesota (http://www.dailykos.com/...). Officers and sheriff deputies in a small town in Minnesota arrested a women simply because they thought she was an illegal alien, although she had a greencard. I forgot to update it.

In January, the case settled with a $40,000 payment and a number of non-monetary concessions by the two law enforcement agencies, including making minority hiring and Spanish speaking a bigger priority, installation and better policies on the use of dashcams, creation of bias police training. Additionally, the two law enforcement agencies will give the ACLU of MN all citations issued over the next two years so the organization can continue to see how Hispanics are being treated.
Outside of the settlement, things have gotten better. Two of the named plaintiffs are no longer working, although the city maintained that both left due to different reasons and not related to this lawsuit. Additionally, police discipline has improved, with one officer getting a month long suspension after the ACLU began its investigation. Lastly, the new police chief is Hispanic. The ACLU of MN is hoping that things are moving in the right direction.
And, last year, Jesus Manuela Mendoza Sierra became a US citizen.
