"It would be transformative if everybody voted. That would counteract money more than anything. If everybody voted, then it would completely change the political map of this country." - President Obama, March 19th, 2015
Inspired by the President's remarks on getting more people to vote I have created a petition on WhiteHouse.gov to declare Election Day a National Holiday:
https://petitions.whitehouse.gov//petition/make-election-day-national-holiday-so-everyone-may-easily-vote
Please add your name to the petition.
Make election day a national holiday so that every eligible citizen man have their vote counted and their voice heard.
In order to make it possible for every eligible American citizen to vote in this country, Election Day should be declared a national holiday similar to Presidents Day or Martin Luther King Day.
If Election Day is a national holiday then the electorate will be able to easily participate in their civic duty to vote. The more people vote, the more our representatives in Congress reflect the will of all of the people and not of a select few.
Declaring Election Day a national holiday will improve civic discourse and allow the electorate to educate themselves on the issues and make their voice heard. It will vastly improve our democracy.
Voting is the right every American citizen and it is something that should be encouraged and made accessible to all.
