JR Claeys (R-Salina) has had a heck of a week in Kansas. Upset that a fellow Republican was facing pushback by ABC (Alcohol Beverage Control) for hosting BYOB parties as a matter of business without an alcohol permit JR Claeys decided he had the right idea: entirely defund ABC, calling on everyone to be fired.

In the event that ABC is defunded, he said that the next step will be to recreate the agency but one that is business friendly.
“I think you can abolish the agency and bring it back with individuals who will do their jobs correctly,” he said. “You can abolish the agency and come back with an agency that is more responsible for small businesses.”
Rather than clarify the law as it stands, JR Claeys decided it was simply easier to eliminate the department altogether by reducing funding to $0 with a plan to maybe rebuild it later after everyone was either terminate or had left the job.
Now, comments from last week are coming back to haunt JR, as the renewed fight over education takes root.
In a back and forth exchange with the President of Kansas State University, JR Claeys pointed out why he believes funding for K-State should face decreases.
As long as their is feminist thought being taught at a public university, maybe the goal is to reduce their funding until they stop.
When this thought was originally uttered on March 5, many took it as just one of those things people say on Twitter that they don't mean; but with Claeys strategy regarding ABC, we now have to wonder how far he would be willing to press the issue.

"He has a misunderstanding about what we do in women's studies," she (Angela Hubler, Asst. Professor) said.
It is an interdisciplinary field of study that pulls together elements of literature, politics, history, psychology, art and philosophy. At K-State, she said, students explored sexual trafficking, violence against women, gender pay inequity and dozens of other topics. The politics of social change are part of the landscape, she said.
"That's hardly putting a pitchfork in the hands of students," Hubler said.
Representative Claeys, however, has made fairly clear this week that his strategy --- of burning the building down and rebuilding -- is something he is more than willing to follow through on.
Sacrifice women's studies, K-State, and you might have a shot at restoring some funding.
