The. Shit. Has. Hit. The. Fan.
Battered and bruised, publicly scorned and humiliated, the GOP clown caucus is cutting and running, now claiming their treasonous letter to Iran was just a joke (No, really).
Republican aides were taken aback by what they thought was a light-hearted attempt to signal to Iran and the public that Congress should have a role in the ongoing nuclear discussions. Two GOP aides separately described their letter as a “cheeky” reminder of the Congressional branch’s prerogatives.
“The administration has no sense of humor when it comes to how weakly they have been handling these negotiations,” said a top GOP Senate aide.
Republicans Admit: That Iran Letter Was a Dumb Idea
BWHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAAAHAH -- now, that's funny.
More than 36 hours later and #47Traitors is still trending on Twitter.
Twitter has turned on the nation’s 47 traitors.
Outraged Americans on Tuesday blasted the overwhelming majority of Senate Republicans for sending a letter to Iran’s leaders, sparking a top trending #47Traitors hashtag on the social media site.
Senate GOP’s Iran Letter Sparks American Outrage
The firestorm is causing the normally lock-step Republicans to turn on each other:
Senator Bob Corker (R-TN): “I immediately knew that it was not something that, for me anyway, in my particular role, was going to be constructive."
Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ): “I just didn’t feel that it was appropriate or productive at this point. These are tough enough negotiations as it stands, and introducing this kind of letter, I didn’t think would be helpful."
Lindsey Graham admitted he only signed the letter after throwing a childish temper tantrum:
“I told [Cotton] I don’t think I’m going to do that, because I’m negotiating with Democrats to get on the bill. So when the president just says, ‘I’ll veto that bill,’ in the middle of us putting it together? I said ‘enough is enough.’"
And President of Sunday Talk John McCain now says he had
no idea what he was signing:
“I saw the letter, I saw that it looked reasonable to me and I signed it, that’s all. I sign lots of letters.”
They can't run from this stink bomb fast enough.
