It was only a matter of time before the subject came up again. We all knew it would.
The dog whistles are screaming; voter fraud, electioneering, ballot security. Yup, you guessed it - the Republicans are at it again. Trampling on our rights as citizens by thinking that every one of us (or, at least those of us that aren't the same color as they are) are trying to rig elections and steal the vote away from those God-fearing, firearm-waving, Duck Dynasty-watching 'muricans that fought so hard to govern this country from the plantations of old.
Follow me below the Great Orange, chad-free squiggle for the latest in GOP hijinks from the Silver State.
It popped up on the news this afternoon -
Senate Republicans introduced SB169 on Tuesday. It would require proof of identification in order to vote and provide for free voter identification cards.
Apparently, the Nevada State Legislature (now firmly in the hands of the Grand Old Party-Poopers...wait a minute...that's two P's...oh, well) have decided that the voices of outrage from their constituency have caused them enough concern to have a moment of political pause. So they introduced SB169.
We've all seen this sort of charade before. Ask for a form of identification before you get to vote (Goddess forbid that someone that doesn't have the right to vote, actually be able to do so.)
Bill sponsor Sen. James Settelmeyer said the measure comes at the request of constituents who are worried about identify theft and think the voting process should be more secure.
I apologize in advance for the brevity of this diary, but I felt that this one needed to be put out there. The GOP silly-fest continues unabated.
