Fairly quiet today considering that midnight tonight is the deadline for February coverage in 46 states & DC, but there are three state updates:
–Connecticut: 90K QHPs, 132K Medicaid thru 1/09
—Rhode Island: 27.7K QHPs, 3,200 SHOP thru 1/10
—California: Renewal data or not, the next QHP surge is definitely upon us.
I was majorly bummed that CoveredCA still isn't giving out any renewal data, but at their board meeting today they did release some demographic updates, including a 1-day update on QHP enrollments...over 11,600 on Monday alone.
Since the average for the prior 27 days was just 2,700/day, this is pretty significant. Even if you take out 4 days for Christmas & New Year's, that's still just 3,170/day, so I think it's safe to say that the mid-January "mini-surge" I've been expecting did indeed kick in on Monday. It should be peaking today, and then mostly drop off (the deadline in Maryland is Sunday, and not until next Friday in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Washington State).
Anyway, QHP selections through midnight tonight should be roughly 9.4 million total, of which roughly an even 7 million should be through HealthCare.Gov.
However, since the HHS's "weekly snapshots" run through Friday, my official call for tomorrow night is slightly higher: 9.44 million total / 7.03 million HC.gov.
Anyway, here's what things should look like as of tonight (click below to Embiggen!!)
