"Christmas isn't just a day; it's a frame of mind!” This is one of my favorite lines from one of my favorite Christmas movies Miracle on 34th Street (the fantastic original, mind you, not the so-so remake). But I believe it is also one of the truest. The Christmas spirit isn’t the celebration of rampant commercialism and consumerism, which have become defined the season for many. Rather, it is the celebration of that miraculous gift received over 2000 years ago, the gift which is the earthly embodiment of love, grace, and peace. Every time we love each other, give grace to those who have wronged us, or strive, in our own small way, for peace, we celebrate this gift. It is this “frame of mind”, the true Christmas spirit, which we should all strive to make our own, not just for a single day, but for every day, for every hour, and for every second of our existence. So as we enjoy our family and friends, our gifts, food, and drink, we should take the time to remember what the Christmas spirit is truly about, and dedicate ourselves to celebrate and live in the gifts of love, grace, and peace for each and every day of our lives. Merry Christmas everyone, and a happy New Year!
