Even though Dick Cheney isn’t the only one responsible for the stain of torture on the United States, he’s the most, shall we say, colorful? If you think the awfulness of Bush-era torture is behind us, think again. Thanks to the just-released Senate torture report, we now know of all kinds of new and awful ways the CIA and Bush Administration screwed up the hunt for Al Qaeda and disgraced this nation.
This report thoroughly demolishes the torture apologists’ talking points and brings to light awful practices like “rectal feeding.” If you read the report you’ll learn about a “program” so ridiculously inefficient and counterproductive the CIA ended up accidentally torturing our own informants! Oops. (Never mind the sheer brutality and terrorist recruitment tool “enhanced interrogation” became.)
Remember, this report was sanitized by the CIA and approved by Republicans in the Senate before it was released— just think what’s in the reports that haven’t been approved for public consumption. It’s shocking what was done to innocents swept up in the fog of war as well as what was done to the truly guilty. The most maddening part of this is the fact that these brutal torturers have destroyed any chance of bringing the truly guilty prisoners to justice. (Didn’t these guys ever watch Law & Order?) It’s hard to win a case in a legit court when you’ve tortured the suspect. Enjoy the cartoon, and be sure to like, comment and share! And as usual, you can dig into more links behind the cartoon on my site.
O say can you see, by the rectal feeding tube,
What so proudly we hail’d a success that was gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and fresh scars, and anal fissures large.
Oh the prisoners we hung, from a wrist as they're screaming!
And the beat-downs were there, rape hangs in the air,
The proof that this worked, is as thick as my hair,
O say do those agents, crying among us,
Stand for strength and freedom, and rectally-infused hummus.
