Yesterday in Cleveland, police officers were called to a playground on a report of "a guy", probably a juvenile, waving around a gun that the caller thought was probably fake. The officers who responded fired two shots. The young, black victim died today of his wounds. The gun was fake. He is not reported as having threatened the officers in any way, nor of waving the gun at all when the officers arrived, only of "reaching for his waistband" when asked to put his hands in the air.
The boy who was killed was 12 years old.
I'm lousy at diaries, but I hadn't seen anyone else mention it and it needs to be mentioned. One wonders if there will ever be enough dead children to be seen by the country as a whole as a problem.
1:34 PM PT: Update: LeftyCoaster has a much more thorough diary on this, if you want to stop over there instead.
