Live behind what is the "downtown" part of (2+ / 0-)
Columbia City, about where Tuta Bella pizza is.
Carol Cobb's place got destroyed by a high speed driver last week, along with the Greek place. The driver took out the corner and front posts of the building. It may get condemned due to safety issues (there are major cracks in the structure you can see from the street).
The owl and Bald Eagle still live in Steward Park.
The hawk is a new comer to the neighborhood. It looked like it was going after one of the finches that have invaded the area, and smacked into some of the low branches over the sidewalk on Edmonds. I walked towards it and it seem to recover and fly off between the houses.
The building that Carol Cobb Salon, the combination Greek dining and laundromat and the Ethiopian (used to be a BBQ place) are now closed due to the accident. The building sits across from Lottie's.
The lady who was speeding, clipped a pollard (the protective posts in the ground) by the old clock by the flower shop. That pollard sheared off at the ground and hit the side of the building of Carol's. And went thru the corner post and front supports/windows of the building, plowed thru the connecting wall trapping a family who was having a late lunch to the counter in the Greek place.
We had a protest walk, Friday afternoon. The group of several hundred walked the 4 corners there at Ferdinand and Rainier to protest:
1. The increased speed of traffic coming thru the area
2. Lack of pedestrian safety from the speeders.
What the protesters want:
1. Safety barriers (like the Jersey barriers) to help protect the pedestrians from traffic. The pollards are not solid steel, they are only a empty steel pipe set in the ground (rusting away) with a plastic cover over it.
2. Cops to catch the speeders.
3. The intersection cameras to catch the speeders and increase the fine in the Landmark district to $500 for speeding.
So I may be bending Ms Sawant's ear at the end of the meet up because the whole Columbia City neighborhood is pissed about what is going on.
