Hi folks,
Something a little different tonight. I received word through the interwebby grapevine that our dear DJ Rix who was known to us blue-blooded Street Propheteers as "Asbury Park" has died. From what I've learned, he died on Thursday in Elizabeth, New Jersey. As you can tell from his SP username he had a deep connection to the East Coast. After a prolonged period of worsening health he checked himself into the hospital about a week and a half ago.
Please take a moment and join me in remembering Bob Rixon below the fold.
I never met him personally, but he and I swapped occasional comments with each other over the 8 years that I've been visiting Street Prophets and Daily Kos. He'd joined over a year earlier than I had and was a well respected voice in any conversation. Not that he commented all that much really. He was more active over in blue SP where he felt more at ease discussing his religious views. Here he mostly shared music and his poetry. His "rec" shows up in most of the tip jars that cross the SP Group page though. A diary rec from Rix was a rare event. He was a wise, and gentle-- although, I remember fondly being scolded by him. Well deserved I assure you.
Here's a list of all 25 of the diaries Bob Rixon posted here on Daily Kos:

Bob Rixon's diaries here were often very personal. I'll be going through some of that list this weekend.
If you're feeling up to beautiful old postcards and a peek into a man's soul have a look at Bob's personal blog "the rix mix"-- especially that list of links along the right side.
And DJ Rix really was a DJ. You can check out his shows streaming on WFMU
What a delightful, odd, collection of music. So much to be discovered there.
I hadn't checked out any of these links that had been waiting for anyone to discover on his DK profile. And now I'm sorry that I waited so long. Yet grateful it's all still there to be found (well, we're still missing an accessible SP archive).
Still just getting to know you, Bob.
Thanks for stopping by.
