The US Postal Service is doing their annual food drive this Saturday, May 11.
Helping Stamp Out Hunger is as easy as checking your mailbox. Just leave a bag of non-perishable food items by your mailbox on Saturday, May 11. Your letter carrier will then pick up and deliver the food to a local food bank.
Examples of non-perishable items include:
• Peanut butter
• Canned soup
• Canned meats and fish
• Canned vegetables, fruits and juices
• Boxed goods (such as cereal)
• Pasta and rice
Let's talk about what would be good to give under the elite scrumptious pastry below:
Some other ideas: Powdered milk. It comes in small packets now too. I have been keeping some on hand for the rare occasion I want milk. I can mix up a little bit and close the package with rubber bands, or put it in an airtight Tupperware type container. Families could use it for cooking or even on cereal.
More milk. Horizon has little boxes of milk that don't need refrigeration.
Comes in low fat, strawberry and chocolate. I have added the chocolate to coffee. :) I keep some on hand for emergency stash.
Cookies.
Tea bags for iced tea this summer.
I guess best is to stick with solid foodstuffs, pasta, tuna, etc. but they will get lots of tuna. Wish I trusted tuna. I'm not sure we should eat it. What do you think would be good to contribute?
Go shopping tomorrow, or If you have 3 cans of veggies in your cupboard that you can put out on Saturday that will help. It will all add up.
I cannot believe I will be putting mine out in a plastic (weatherproof) bag. Here west of Denver it is raining. We have rain and even hail in the forecast. We are currently under a "Winter Weather Advisory." Hope all is sunny at your house.
