Oblivious was the first thought that came to mind, when I first learned that Romney had feted top donors aboard a 150 ft yacht flying the Cayman Islands flag. Then I asked myself, did he do this on purpose, or did he simply not notice, not care, or think it irrelevant and unimportant? Exactly what kind of mind can be oblivious to so much?
So I had to look up the definition of oblivious in Merriam-Webster to check that my brain had understand the word correctly.
oblivious: def. adjective
1. unmindful; unconscious; unaware (usually followed by of or to ): She was oblivious of his admiration.
2. forgetful; without remembrance or memory: oblivious of my former failure.

Yup, that's it. That's what Romney is: oblivious. And that's why we don't like him. His stupid "jokes" and put-downs of other people show how oblivious he is to the feelings of others. His tenure and control at Bain show how unmindful he is of the consequences of his actions on others. All the opportunistic flip-flipping on issues reveals how unaware he is that we remember his past positions--and there's even video to remind us of his words should we want to double check.
What kind of mind can be so oblivious to his effect on other people and to his own record? It is a mind that is so focused on winning at any costs that everything else is simply dismissed as unimportant. The end justifies the means. What to do about poverty, climate change, education, a crumbling infrastructure, the failing military policy in Afghanistan, a struggling middle class? Well his cabinet will be a "board of directors" that will manage all those messy problems, so he can project what's really important: a presidential image. It is a mental world starring Mitt Romney, unmindful that other people are also in the play.
This is a mind that listens only to others with large wealth and power, listening in "quiet rooms," where no information can intrude with disturbing news and contradictory facts. An oblivious mind that dismisses all unpleasantness. Romney is child of privilege with servants to pick up after him. You know, those people that enable him to be unconcerned about the dust bunnies under the sofa. Those little people that don't really matter in his drama of himself; those people can be dismissed.
It's the lies that he knows are lies that really intrigue me. Frankly, I would be very embarrassed to tell such stupid and obvious lies, such as the Obama wants to destroy welfare-to-work and the Obama $716 billion medicare rip-off. Both lies debunked over and over and over. It is an oblivious mind that can so easily pretend to be unaware of the obvious truth and simply dismiss truth as unimportant, inconvenient.
The mind of Mitt Romney? Go figger ...
