Welcome to the DFH Freaky Friday weekly music series
Because Team DFH operates more or less like a herd of cats, we’re here at roughly 9PM Eastern, every week. So take off your shoes, plop down on that beanbag chair over there, let your hair down, and get some groovy on. |
Announcement: FF Guest Hosts wanted!
Freaky Friday DFH weekly music series will continue through summer! If you have an idea for a music diary that you'd like to write/host one (or more) week, just drop me a kosmail. FF is fun to write, especially for new or diary-shy Diarists, lol. I'll be happy to assist if need with coding, embeds, and stuff, just ask. The FF June schedule is wide open!! C' mon, you know you want to! ~LL
I think we could all use a little soul soothing a-long about now. It's gonna be a long summer.
Rather than try to assemble a truly themed (read coherent) diary tonight - Im just not in the mood! - I decided to throw some (mostly) acoustical tunes together that just make me feel... I dunno... better! So if it seems like I'm kinda all over the place, it's because, well, I am! heh.
Joni Mitchell, "Hissing of Summer Lawns"
.
Joni & Jaco, "Coyote"
.
This recording has rather poor audio quality unfortunately but it is Jaco... If there's a better one of Jaco with this tune, let me know in comments!
Jaco & others, "Blackbird"
.
Leo's original tunes are mostly instrumentals. He says in an interview that song titles are always a bit of a challenge for him. I have to say, this has to be one of my favorite song titles! Ha!
Leo Kottke, "I Yell At Traffic"
.
What a find... love this.
Paul Simon, "Anji"
.
bonus! "Anji" was written/arranged(?) by this guy...
Davy Graham, "Anji"
.
Wow, look, heh, Ry Cooder has some very cool stuff!
.
Ry Cooder, "Feelin' Bad Blues"
.
I only know of this tune because a guitarist friend of mine plays it occasionally. He tells me he thinks the title is "Cuban Lullaby". It's a lovely melodic lullaby... soothing, no?
William Kanengiser performing Afro-Cuban Lullaby
.
Probably one of my top ten favorite (guitar) instrumental compositions... ever. Listening to this song always brings me back to center, even if just for a bit.
Jorma Kaukonen, "Embryonic Journey"
.
Ooh nice, 12 string! This is a live solo performance. I always loved this song, nice and moody.
Paul Simon, "The Only Living Boy in New York"
.
Aaaaah...
David Crosby, "Thousand Roads"
.
Here's a song that suits my mood just fine...
Tracy Chapman, "If Not Now"
.
"Blackbird", ya know, the real one...
.
In closing...

It's Freaky Friday! Bring some tunes, whatever you got! Feel free to comment with just a song-link and your thoughts, or try for the embed, for however long that works for us. Either way, we're just chillin' here, so c'mon and join in.
Here's HOW: To add vids in comments: Click on "share"; then the "embed" button; change the size of the video graphic too, so when it posts, it is smaller. Use 300pixels in the custom parameters (last one on the right) under the embed code. {h/t joanneleon}
