Hunger Is the Wiser World
Hunger is the wiser world
struggling to be born amid oceans
of sharksteeth slash-gnashing
Hunger is calling the Food Stamp number
and rejoicing in relief of restriction
the blessed benefits are there
and I can eat this week
Hunger is the galactic greed of the few
now that they know
how to make money by moving it
in maggot monte maneuvers
the mark's no longer meaningful
and their process of eliminating most
and incarcerating the rest
can at last begin in undressed earnest
Hunger is Stockholm Syndrome Stockade
where go along gets along
with head at land in flames that fan
in humbled hands of scorching sand
knowing and self-showing
that at rare reason's reservoir
it will be slaughtered and served
to hopeless howling hungry hostages
Hunger is burnt yearning
trickling tumbling torrential
to see all free
to be what they be
as long as they don't pee on me
Hunger is a suffering soul of the South
whom I don't even know
but whose path of pitiless pain
makes me want to care for him
like a lifelong lover
Hunger is cuddling in puddles
where loose juice slips the noose
and sorry separation
turns to rebels' reparation
Hunger is a child
that can't believe that past peaceful protest
was met with the roar of a water cannon
and that we're still doing it
only with hot pepper and not cool water
Hunger is the first worst burst of thirst
that turning, spurns the burning urge
to explode/expunge the exploitive elites
with their permanent Planet Earth pinkslip
Hunger is scraping day to day
when there's much more mystery to muster
to midwife the merging millennium
from my mind to the manifest manger
Hunger stands in amused amazement
that we're still talking about him
in the richest nation ever to exist
though he loves attention, true
in each empathic absence
Hunger's hungry too.
