This is my first diary. Pardon me for being brief, but after a ran across this, I just had to inform folks around here about yet another case of dkos being run through the mud for "balance".
I just took a peak at Time's Swampland blog, and I just saw this rather stunning bit of false equivalency, penned by Jay Newton-Small:
Giffords herself was put under crosshairs by both the left and the right: by Sarah Palin as one of the seats she was targeting for the midterms and by Markos Moulitsas of the progressive Daily Kos blog for Giffords' vote against Nancy Pelosi for Speaker last week. And people wonder why someone might actually go and shoot her.
.
Of course, Markos never did such a thing, an anonymous diarist just happened to write a regrettably titled diary. Needless to say, the diarist did not use any terminology that could be interpreted as suggesting putting Giffords under the gun or anything else threatening, and deleted it himself in deference to Giffords (quite frankly, I think that diary should be restored just to quell the conspiracy theories). A number of people have already commented to that effect on the Time blog, but I humbly suggest that Markos should push for a retraction and an apology from Newton-Small. This garbage has to be nipped in the bud.
I have to say it's rather distressing (but I guess ultimately not surprising) to see how eagerly this bit of right-wing distortion has been picked up by media types like Time's Newton-Small and the New York Times' Matt Bai to push "the left is just as bad!" meme.
I wonder if any of this is legally actionable.
Update: Quote extended after reading MeteorBlades comment.
Update 2: Well, it turns out that Markos did use the word bulls eye once, but you have to go back to 2008:
2010 will be primary season
