Well, long ago when I was a transfer college student, I went to the head of the Art History department to ask for his permission to take an advanced Art History course. I needed upper level electives in order to graduate and the head of the History department had already told me to forget about it. The art history professor told me he knew I would fail, but he would allow it. And the first test, I just passed. But by the end of the course, I had regained my confidence and I aced the course. I even got an apology from the professor! (He was a terrific teacher and I ended up taking all of the classes he taught.)
So, maybe we're being a little early in deciding that all is lost. Perhaps we could wait until after all of the votes are in to decide how we will act in defeat.
If by some chance you still haven't decided whether it's worth your time to vote, please look at the Wikipedia entry for Ken Cuccinelli; Virginia's illustrious Attorney General. Read about some of his activities this year. Virginia had very off-season election for state officers last year and we got a boat load of ultra-conservatives. Lots of people thought it wouldn't make a difference whether they voted or not, so they didn't bother. We're discovering that it makes a huge difference in how our dollars are spent...and what things are fought for.
If you are young, it's about how you are going to be treated as an individual and your freedom. If you are old like me, it's about social security and medicare and the V.A. hospitals. And for all of us, it's about making our economy grow instead of handing everything over to the corporations.
So, please find a way to go vote tomorrow! I'm keeping my fingers crossed and will be ready to take names if anyone gets in my way at the polls.
