I was a blind follower in the primaries when there was absolutely no chance that Barack Obama was going to win the nomination over Hilary Clinton. I swallowed it all hook line and sinker and started talking after Super Tuesday about how it was mathematically very unlikely that Hilary could overcome Obama's edge in delegates. When Hilary won in Pennsylvania by a smaller margin than was needed in order to put her on pace to take the lead with only states with a small number of delegates remaining and I pointed out that she was actually further from the nomination after winning PA than she was that morning... I was a silly inexperienced Obamabot. Clearly I was wrong about all of that. Silly blind follower.
After he won the nomination and started to campaign in the general election, I was still a mindless Obamabot. Of course he was not nearly aggressive enough. He didn't get on offense before McCain did. Clearly he was losing every news cycle. His wimpy counter punching style was never going to be effective. Obviously he was being too kind because McCain took an absolutely unqualified nitwit as a running mate and the Senator from Chicago didn't attack her. What the hell was wrong with him?! She was practically a gimme for Christ's sake! Obviously, all but the most naive of blind followers could see that he was doing it all wrong! Clearly, I was wrong about all of that. Silly naive Obamabot.
Then came the stimulus bill and I again was a total kool aid drinker. The President didn't do nearly enough arm twisting. He needed to get aggressive. Where the hell was he? What?! He had rethugs over to the White House to watch the Superbowl?! Why would you talk to the people who you need to convince instead of having the choir over for the latest rendition of your sermon?! He'd blown it. There was no way we were ever going to get a stimulus bill or even one republican vote. Clearly I was wrong about all of that. Kool aid drinking fawning Obamabot.
And now that it's crunch time on Health Care, I am still an ignorant Obamabot who just won't face reality. Even though it is obvious that his refusal to invite the progressive caucus up to the house for choir practice means that he is on the side of the republicans with whom he does talk. I don't get it that he may have been elected on a truly democratic platform, but what he really wants is an unfunded mandate. It's clear that he is not working on twisting any arms since he hasn't dragged along a tv camera in front of which to do it. Obviously, since he hasn't threatened to veto any bill that doesn't contain a public option, but has repeatedly stated that he does want a public option it means that what he is looking for is a co-op, mandated participation and no subsidies for the poor so that he can give away a shit ton of money to the insurance companies. His failure to publicly point a gun at either of the Senators from Maine's heads clearly means that his secret hidden agenda is to actually enact all of the republican agenda and sit in the Lincoln bedroom and cackle with delight at us foolish progressives. And yet, I remain a stupid, naive, inexperienced, kool aid drinking, blind following Obamabot.
Look, I am not saying that I predict the passage of a health care bill with a public option and no triggers and no co-ops that subsidizes up to 400% of poverty. What I am saying is that I am tired of all of the ridiculous jumping to conclusions and the ascribing of the worst of motives to President Obama. You may wish that he was doing it differently. You may think that he's about to blow it. People have wished that before and people have thought that before. Guess what. The people who were blind following Obamabots at the time were right. He succeeded. Stop ascribing shitty motives to him unless you can prove that he is trying to fail or trying to hoodwink us. And stop calling those of us who have a little faith in the guy blind followers. We were right every time such accusations were leveled at us in the past, not the other way around.
