So we finished phase 1 of the great orange conspiracy. We have the "more democrats" we've been looking for. Phase 2, the "better democrats" is something that we can only really work on once every two years. I have a proposal for phase 1.5:
Make the better democrats we already have more powerful.
The idea is simple really. One of the things that seems to make a person in congress really popular (and thus powerful) within their caucus is the ability to fundraise for their fellows. Nancy Pelosi and John Cornyn both immidiately come to mind as people who based their rise to power on their ability to put money into other people's campaigns.
So here's the idea: Why not take the blogosphere's fundraising powers and put them partially in the hands of someone we really like. I won't suggest anyone, but imagine if we gave some congressperson we liked the ability to suggest, say, three candidates who would be put up periodically on Dkos open threads for donations?
Money is how we count power in this country. If we want to have the people who represent our interests increase in power, we need to give them access to direct money as they need to.
