I would title this post things that make you go hmm, but really right now it is just one thing that is causing me to sit and stare and my computer and TV Machine in absolute horror, wonder, disbelief and all of the above. WTF is the media doing reporting what Megan McCain writes about on her blog.
How is this news? What value does it impart to us as a society? What is she an expert in and why does her opinion matter more than any other young blogger out there?
Okay, so her dad ran for President a few months back, but what does this acutally qualify her for? How does this validate her opinions? I mean I am the daughter of an english professor/editor and the wife of a government administrator. This doesn't qualify me to run a government agency or teach a university english class; let alone edit a quaterly journal. Heck, I can barely punctuate correctly on a good day.
On my own, I have a BA and MA and a PVAC; now that might qualify me for a few things. I can teach a couple of University courses in Government if I want to. I can write grants and explain a good deal about the criminal justice system to a crime victim. Please note that my qualifications have not a damn thing to do with my Daddy's or my husband's; and with all these qualifications I am an underemployed occassional blogger. I don't expect my husband's agency or my father's friends to pay any attention to what I put down on ether.
I am also the mother of two daughters and I want them to have accomplishments in their own right, not mine, not their daddy's, not their grandfather's. What message are we really sending our daughter's as we hang on the thoughts of a young woman whose claim to fame is her daddy ran for president? What message are we sending to Megan McCain?
